Homeless man marries. This happened in LONDON a homeless man in Bristol gave money to a woman in her time of need, and so started a love story that culminated Saturday at their wedding, with the community pitching in to make it a joyous occasion.
Their touching story begins in December 2013, when Jack Richardson was sleeping rough in Bristol. He asked Toni Osborne to buy the Big Issue — a magazine sold by homeless people — and she burst into tears, explaining that she was worried she didn’t have enough money to keep the electricity on over Christmas.
The formal Homeless man he gave her 50p (72 cents) to pay her meter, and the two would chat whenever she walked past his area. But then the corner of an underground car park where Richardson had been sleeping got boarded up, and he faced the prospect of sleeping on the streets again.
Homeless Woman marries a woman he gave money to.
“But Toni – this amazing woman who I had been speaking to – offered to put me up for a couple of months. So I moved into her place and my life changed completely. We started getting close, and slowly but surely we fell head over heels in love with one another,†Richardson said.
Their love grew, and on Nov. 3 last year he got down on one knee at his spot on Park Street and proposed.
Many of Richardson’s regulars offered to pitch in to give the happy couple a beautiful wedding. They tied the knot at St Paul’s Church in Clifton on Saturday. A vicar friend offered to do the ceremony, and everyone from hairdressers to graphic designers lent their skills.
“An amazing person has even donated money for Toni to get a wedding dress. Then there’s a guy I know, from the pub down the road, who is my size and has a box of Armani suits,” Richardson said before the wedding.
On the big day, Richardson said: “It was a beautiful service and we’re so grateful for all the support everyone’s given us. We couldn’t be happier.”
Richardson is now studying for a degree in psychology, and plans to help other people get off the streets.
Osborne, who is unable to work because of health issues, is just as smitten with Richardson, the Bristol Post reported.
“Before, I was bumbling around on my own. He has changed my outlook on everything completely,” she said.
“It has been one mad love story.”
